Thermite welding is a fully autonomous melting process used to create high-quality electrical connections between copper, copper alloys, or steel conductors. A graphite mold is employed to bring the molten metal into contact with the conductors, permanently bonding them together. The sealant is used when the elements to be welded do not have a smooth surface, such as welding a cable to a reinforced concrete bar or a metal framework. It is applied in contact with the element to be welded and the outer wall of the mold to seal the gap and prevent molten metal from escaping the weld cavity. A full box of sealant can produce approximately one hundred welds.
